Black ties by the river
Bloodshot eyes with tears to deliver
Sorrow that makes the heart quiver
Her last diagnosis, the fever
And jaundice from the liver
Now death is a winner
Mother doubles over in grief
Brother’s fist clenched in disbelief
Step mother tries to hide her relief
Sister wonders, he came like a thief
Her beauty’s gone cold stiff
Death’s sting has cut deep.
Dreams in which she died were best
This she constantly confessed
"We live in a mad world,"
So she said
Truly she was blessed
Her body floats downstream
Their silent thoughts, a loud scream
Mother bawls and shrieks
Branches sway and creek
Brother plots revenge and thinks
A soft dirge sends her off.
