Wordplay

by Davy Vivaldi on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 10:01pm ·

roses rose from the ground
petals pounced for the pound
souls sprang to the sound
howls hailed from the hound
for her beauty simply abound

drums beat to the din
lights seemed to dim
heaven forgot the sin
nature created the scene
for her beauty simply abound.

Adjectives suited her
Adverbs served her
Anagrams spoke of her
Acronyms spelt her
for her beauty simply abound

NON-BELIEVER

If ever there was a thing called love,
It died of abuse and utter neglect
For humanity gave it no respect
If ever there was a thing called lust,
It won it prize long before we did,
Our vanity made it splendid

If ever there was a thing called hope,
Its time is dead and gone,
And degeneration took it place
If ever there was a thing called faith,
Its strength did dissipate,
Binding us to a common fate,

If ever there was a thing called rage,
We must have lost its cage,
And found a way to give it edge,
If ever there was a thing called pain,
This is the only thing I could claim,
For it fills me with self disdain.

If ever, again I say, if ever,
As I don’t believe
in things I can’t break
I don’t believe in emotion,
I don’t believe in chance
I don't believe in fate,

I simply don’t believe,
If ever, possibly, if ever.
They were but they aren’t

WHEN YOU'RE GONE

Time makes the heart grow fond
Strengthening our firm bond
As a pair we seem bound
Together like strings wound
Your presence pouring joy
To me, makes the world coy

Your absence wears the soul
Tiring its every strain
The world becomes dreary
Like the lonely prairie
And I wish time would hurry
Along with all my worry

The mind becomes edgy
With thoughts of you so plenty
Life lacks colour when you’re gone
Bells feel like lazy tones
Soft touches feel like stones
That brings pain to the bone

The body gets it way,
To erase the marks of time
Emotions stay at bay
Lest they lead me to crime
So I pretend to pray
While on the inside I cry

THE HEDGE

Behind this hedge,
We hide our fall outs,
That the curious outsiders,
May not know our faults.

Behind this hedge,
We spoke in hushed tones,
That the preying ears of outsiders,
May not know our plots.

Behind this hedge,
We wept and laughed,
And kept a straight face for outsiders,
That our tiding may stay secret.

Behind this hedge,
We made love and waged war,
And forged unity while we stepped out,
That outsiders may not spot our weaknesses.

This hedge,
That once unified and protected us,
The very hedge that we took down,
To let in outsiders.

The hedge no longer is,
Now our secrets are made public,
And are fretted upon by the outsiders,
In a bid to weaken us.

THE CYCLE

 Davy Vivaldi on Sunday,
September 9, 2012 at 10:04am ·

Dawn cracks his whips
Darkness away he slips
Like cat and mouse
Their game goes on
Good and evil they spawn
Their battle rages on.

Darkness creeps up,
Daylight stalks off,
Changing cycles,
Constant patterns,
 Evil spurts to life,
And fear fades in light...

Exhausted night turns to flee
As day comes riding in
Like the knight he’s known to be
Ending torrents of a tyrants spree
The glim of hope he sets free
The battle rages on

Dusk recoils, he grows weak.
Dark charges on, now grown strong.
His gray hand holds firm.
His aura pale and grim
The sky so slick. A postcard so meek
The battle rages on

BALLAD FOR MY BELOVED

If I were a god in the skies above
Swaying and gliding among the clouds
Looking down on the world full of love
From dawn to dusk, its beauty unearthed
Only one would capture my thoughts
Only one would hold my gaze

I would spy on your every move
Follow your every step from my birds view
Through the marvelous heels and valleys
Across the ponds, and luscious greenery
Watch you dance with pure glee and joy
Enjoying as you made nature feel coy

I would drift down in your day dreams,
Sweep you away to the magical heavens
Stroll with thee by the silent streams
Strum music from strings unwoven
Fill you with tranquility unequaled
And set you back in serenity so civil
Stealing away before you noticed

I’d lie back among the clouds,
Morph them in strange shapes
And savor the moment in childish glee
As you settled back in your bed
Secretly aware, I would comfort you
And lull you to sleep with a kiss

If I were a god in the skies above,
But I am the man you gave your heart
The heart I promised to keep,
The love I promised to cherish
The one I promised to shower in sparks
The one I will forever let you smile,
My beloved

THE TIDE

Years came by, years went by
Where I stood, I now lie
Where they lived they now die,
Where they laughed they now cry,
For the years that went by.

Time went by, time crept by,
To youth we were not shy,
To age we were not kind,
Now we seat back and cry,
For years we did not mind

Change came by, change went by,
Mischief was on our minds
Patience we put behind
Now we look back and sigh
For the years we let wind.

Memories flash by, memories pass by
Regrets have lost their bite
Time has proved them right
The future has no more light
So we let the years go by.

PRINCESS

Oh! Yee beauty of the sea sun and sand
The one I wish to hold and love
Do grant me this an take my hand
Walk with me to the lands above
Show your beauty to all that stand.
Let awe spread lithe wings of a dove
Oh! Queen of the world so grand
In your palace may I serve?

Goddess sent from the heavens
By your beauty I am struck
Your place is not among heathens
Even though in shadows we lark
Images art has graven
Capture not your beauties worth

ARMAGEDON

Hades, Hercules and Zeus
Let loose their wrath on earth
Ripping it of all its girth
Weak and flail, she fell

War and greed made us fall
Thus the earth was forced to implode
Good ground to dust
The flag flew at half-must

A world once so serene
Now bathed in blood and gore
Beauty bit by rot
To save it, I think not

Bright eyes now black holes
Blessings you choose to forgo
And souls you made sore
This is the path you chose

THE COMMISSION IN LUNACY

They formed a commission of inquiry
But it was a commission in lunacy
Their acts shrouded in infamy
A people governed by tyranny
Pushed by their greed and vanity

They claimed to have the people’s best interests
But were quick to bargain for their interests
And asked, in their tummies we invest
Lest they too decide to protest
So for every penny they had an inquest

They vexed the people with their greed
Their every action for justice, they would impede
Pushing the people beyond the brink
Fueling a rage only madness would breed
And the people moved with speed

The commission was broken instantly
The doctors said they were beyond insanity
Then they were strung up for inhumanity
Giving the vicious cycle continuity

THE DEATH WISH

I kissed death on her lips
Though cold as ice
They were mighty sweet
Her grey face studying mine

To life I bid my goodbyes
And turned to watch
As I heard her cries
Her bright face fades away

The saints said I could never turn back
This I dint care to understand
I chose to show them my back
Their faces grim with rage

Demons said I was in for some luck
This I wanted to learn
Then I was engulfed by the dark
Their faces full of deception.

The devil jumped full of glee
While death led me forward
And angels chose not to flee
Their faces curved in disappointment

Now all I felt was cold
Perhaps that is all I ever was
A heart as cold as ice
The glimmer of light gone from my eyes

This kiss

This kiss
This kiss that parted my soul
And merged it with yours,
That made our emotions intertwined
And let our hearts run wild
As we morphed into one.

We indulged our vanity
Moving in perfect symmetry
Dancing to the soft symphony,
And the worlds cacophony
Faded to sweet silence
We were one

We made illusions reality
And reality faded to fancy
We were consumed in fantasy
Absorbed in each others’ company
Love blossomed and bloomed
We were one

HEART IS KING

When it comes to love,
The heart is king,
Ruling much like a tyrant,
All that matter is its will,
And no one else can win

When it comes to love,
The mind is ill at ease,
As logic is cleaved of,
And reason is sent packing,
So it has no standing,
At the centre of thought and whim,
It too can not win.

When it comes to love,
The person is the cassualty,
A victim of the self,
Either fully consumed, Or horribly
spat out,
Affirmed into strength,
Or torn to weakness

when it comes to love,
These are the truths,
Harshly so they seem,
But constantly strong they be,
Our love is our greatest fit.

FATE

Fate, my dear
Don't say our road is at an end
The midnight dances
The flamboyant flare,
The flourishing fire,
The exuberant colour
The enticing encounters
The twilight tricks we played
On hearts unsuspecting
While we hang in joy
So inebriating.

Our flirtations with destiny
Were quite illuminating
Our encounters with death
Rather instigating
Our journey with life
Saw us gravitating
Strung in a web of intricacy
We both were levitating

My dear fate
You shook my faith
You engulfed me
With your every breath,
You derived of me
My every strength

Now we sit under this elm
Below the grim grey sky
As they all said it would
With a dull ray in your eye
Age binds me to my bed
Your years still hidden from your face.
Your strength brimming from your well.
Must you be on your way?
Please, don't leave me be.
