REBELION

He lunged forward his fists tightly clenched. The blinding rage in him to much too hold him back, or allow him to think of the consequences. Okeyo was tired of being bullied and pushed around. The resentment hidden inside him for all those years seemed to boil over. The blow landed firmly on one of his assailant's jaw knocking him of balance. The other two were stunned to silence and watched with mouths agape. The small arms moved viciously up and down landing with unbelievable power it was astounding.
" Stop him," Juma managed to gasp as Issa stood quite transfixed by his shock. Omondi lay on the ground, his head rolling with the blows. Juma began to move forward when Okeyo leaped up and turned on him. His little flail frame moving furiously.
Okeyo had always been smaller than everyone his age. for this, he was bullied by all the bigger boys. at one point in primary school he used to be carried by the waistline of his pants and the other boys would run with him and toss him around like a doll. the effect was damaging to his gonads and left him with a permanent limp. unfortunately that did not stop them from going on with their bulling. They took away his lunch, hid his home work and beat him up whenever they had the chance.
There wasn't much difference at home. His father, who always seemed somewhat ashamed of him did not do anything to uplift his spirit. he called him a little girl.he would say, " You should stand up like a man, instead you choose to be pushed around like a woman. You don't deserve to be called my son."
His mother silently moaned at these insults. Her hands clasped over her mouth and the pityful wrinkles arched deep on her brow. She was resigned to nursing Okeyo's injuries every day after school. she loved him dearly, but she also wished he would defend himself. Okeyo had tried on several occasions to do just that, and the results, well, they bore no fruit. a broken arm, broken nose, sprained wrist and bruised tissue were all he ever had to show for it.
The latest trend was was to trip him over and step on his chest. An act that brought hearty laughter to all others around him but caused him severe grief. Omondi enjoyed it the most, the sadistic smile and false bravado of his conquest urged him on. But Okeyo had had enough. That brings us today. The last stand.
Okeyo had taken to carrying a knife which he hoped he would never use, though he never showed it to any one. He dreamt of slitting Omondi's throat and watching him gasp for life. Wished he would here him beg,The very idea gave Okeyo a manic bravado, tha he went ahead to challenge his assailants this morning.
Okeyo insulted Omondi and Juma the moment he saw them. their ignorance did let them focus on the manic glow in Okeyo's eyes, the excited froth lipping from his lips with every insult he hurled at them. they just went at him like they usually did, Omondi lifting him by the collar and bring him to his face.
" You really want to meet your maker, ant," Omondi started as he shook him a little like a rug-doll.
Juma was busy jeering in the background and Ismael just laughed. Omondi made to insult Okeyo's mother when he erupted with a sharp blow to Omondi's throat. The later fell back choking and gasping through short breaths.Ismael and Juma who were still cheering turned just in time to see Okeyo go wild on Omondi's face. only now did they fully grasp the weight of the situation. Juma came forward but Okeyo was to fast for him, having puled out the knife he slashed fast and furiously unaware of what he hit or what damage he did. In the panic, Juma fell back his assailant on top of him slashing and ranting madly. Juma screamed at the top of his lungs for help, but every one in the class was screaming or to afraid to move.
Issa was to stunned by the blood to stay. He feared he would be next an took flight. the commotion had caused a stir in the entire school and everyone went toward the class six block including the headmaster. They arrived to find Okeyo searching for Ismael in the class, Omondi danerously gasping and Juma bleeding all over but immobile. blood splutter spread on the wall and a horrified class backed up in one corner. Okeyo broke out in to a hysterical laughter that drove chills down everyone spins and prickled the hairs on the palms.
He chose to rebel because no one ever listened, nor did they seem to care. Now his father and the headmaster were at a loss of what to do. they stared at him in dead silence, they needed to solve this, but how could they when the ground had fallen out from under their feet.

Settling Scores

by Pathogen Ambadra (Notes) on Friday, March 29, 2013 at 2:40am
Dad didn't get it right
In his lifetime though tried he might
In that moment of weakness
And remorse for his foes' plight
He should have taken it right
But the brain wasn't that bright

"What a fool" the foe thought
With my sword down he should have struck
None but the gullible stretches forth their hand
To a snake full of venomous fangs

Too late to cry over the spilt milk
Sowing seeds of a cancer deep in heart
Long gone the memories of toil side by side
And the song of hope sang at each site
Brotherhood burried in the savoring of might
Manacles returned in black disguise

Like fate has it a reliving of duel
Settling of scores the checklist marked at each lap
And the legend continues of yet the old methods
Reincarnated in the blood boiling with fervor
Is it the last trumpet to a war eternal
Or a season for the sown seeds to scatter

Mirror Mirror

guest post
by Simuli Waliaula (Notes) on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at 9:51am
Mirror on the wall,
With beauty I stand,
Knowing am the fairest of them all,
Keep me young,
All sweet sixteen and vibrant,
Glowing and drawing,
Men and boys,
At my feet they fall,
Kissing and grasping,
Begging for more,
Me-
The lady of May.

Mirror mirror on the wall,
A piece of you I carry,
My daily routine to see,
No speckle or freckle,
Flowing and glowing,
Smoother than cream,
No insect bite nor pimple,
Young I be,
Anti-wrinkle I trust,
Smile-
Beauty I bare.
Another year with you,
In my bag you stay,
Never lying to me,
My best friend forever,
Forget the cheats and pretenders,
You make me glow,
You should be worshipped,
I adore you to death,
Shatter you…
Seven years of bad luck,
I do not want that,
You are my precious baby.

A temple I will make for you,
Look at me,
All young and flowing,
You keep me so,
Sigh-
Dear mirror…
Marry me till death does us apart.

When I die,
Let me be buried with you,
We going to heaven,
Staring at you all day,
My reflection of flawlessness,
My white clothing all mirrored and bright,
Just like you.

This ain’t vanity,
Just a story,
The love we share,
The games we play…
Me and you naked,
 No secrets,
Hate me or love me,
Mirror mirror on the wall,
Am the fairest of them all

DID I?

Did I tell you
How lovely you are?
The glimmer
In the smile you have,
The shine it gives
To this colourful world

Did I tell you,
You are beautiful
With your movement
Entirely graceful,
And your deeds,
Purely thoughtful,
You make everything
All the more soulful
Did I not mention,
That you are the embodiment,
of all that is great and good
That you give my heart warmth
That you occupy thoughts..
That you make me a lot more confident.

AN EPILOGUE

I am afraid of what tomorrow holds,
And if I am prepared to face it,
Cautiously I watch the future unfolds,
Trying to hide the fact that I fear it.
For the past has left little to be told
While the heart has no hope hidden in it.

Battered beaten and bruised the soul lies
With disappointment it heavily sighs
Its gleaming smiles turn to deafening cries
Having fallen from the shattering heights
All that is left is a life full of fright
Living in darkness far away from light
To conceal scars that tell a tale so wild
Wishing the world was coloured dull and mild.

Heritage of Spleandour

by Nicko Fab (Notes) on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at 2:06pm
God bless Kenya
May you grace her tenure
Unite her with her future ancestor
Divide her against this ethnic fellow
Who races helter skelter
To achieve the ultimate ignoble price
Of breaking loose the traditional family ties
With her honey grizzled lips oozing deceit and lies
Her life dangles on the edge like some homely mice
At the sight of the cat's unrelenting, scarlet eyes
May God deliver her from King Saul
Trading her dilapidated soul
For a swing of his vote
She harps his favorite lost song
Dancing to the rhythm of the pestle
May she get acquainted to peace
And the understanding that it can't prevail without justice
May she never misplace the keys to that desired kiss
That labors love and tranquility
Bringing forth equity and equality
That whenever it rains
It will brighten her wrinkled face
She will smile in a 360 phase
As the rain washes away her past pains and shame
For a man can't feign life,maybe death
May this land be her dream come true
Where she was born, bred and grew
Her fathers in unity sipping the same brew
As her children make their wishes under the moon

YOUR HEART IS KING

by Nicko Fab (Notes) on Friday, June 7, 2013 at 3:21pm

When I met you
My life began
But soon
Yours ended
I asked for your noble heart
You gave her for free
For she's priceless
Much more valuable than platinum
She protects my weakened self like magnum
Her emerald beauty swinging my mind like a pendulum
She furnishes my shameless decorum
Your heart conquers the trinity
That is made of me
For your heart is king

Your heart is my pride
She has survived
Despite her happiness deprived
She has cried
For those her tears never deserved
Her shy smiles disguise
The pain digesting her deep inside
Your heart crushed,
The pieces, you opt not to trash
But to adorn me with each single piece
She fought my battle
And home brought the victor's mantle
You managed to bring the world to its feet
For your heart is king

She taught me how to breathe,
How to live
I had eyes,but couldn't see,
Lips,but couldn't kiss
My heart had stopped beating
With just one touch,it was a beginning of forever
She embraced my wildest fantasies
Held my hands towards the land of ecstasies
Unpredictably came the rude shock:
She succumbed to that previous venom chock
When I met you
My life began
But soon
Yours ended.

MY HEART

My heart goes out to you
The peoples champion
You were their pride and joy,
You were their man and our boy,
But fate made you its toy,
My heart goes out to you,
Oh! Dear boy my heart goes out to
you.
My good man, my great boy

My heart sung for you
In great odes
To great musical codes
I cheered when you were victor,
The ballad for the victorious
My heart sung for you

My heart weeps for you
For the fall from glory,
The tragedy to end the story
That was an awesome comedy
My heart weeps dearly.

You broke me

You broke me,
Ripped me apart
You tore me
You built me
Brick by brick
Piece by piece
Made me king
Then you hit me,
Smashed me
Bashed me
Crashed me
Piece by piece
Just like you built me,
You shredded me,
Blew me to smithereens
Because I loved you,
Dear,
I loved you dearly,
But you broke me

awoken

i am awake, she still sleeps,
i watch her breath,
smile in her sleep
i enjoy her serenity
her deep peace

do i make her breakfast
and disrupt this queen
do i slink away
or watch this sweet being

i awe at her
and why she chose me
i trace her face
in a soft caress
my heart starts to pace

TIME

They said time heals best
but there are some things time can not erase
not when the pain forms calluses
So thick they cannot be cleansed

Time can be kind to the soul
creating memories as cool as gold
illuminating joys of the past long gone
Soothing the heart in ways warm

Time too can be mean
when it holds joys all too thin
Rolling out grief much too grim
Staring with so sinister a grin

 Time is strange
one moment you have it all,
next moment, none at all,
And you wonder what went wrong

Time was all I had,
Till my time started to cut it close
A test to all my loss
I let it spill through my fingers

Time was of the essence
Till I lost my presence
Gave in to manic madness
Time, swift and heartless

The truth time told
Was not the one I could hold
Things sick and things cold
Now my mind is very old

KIPENZI

Kipenzi
Nipashe yaliyo moyoni,
Niyafahamu jamani,
Ndani yangu pate amani
Vitendo vyangu vikupe imani
Kipenzi ni semeze jamani
Nipoze moto iliyorohoni
Kimya chako cha tatanisha
Kwa kweli wanibabaisha
lengo langu kufurahisha
Tabasamu lako kusadikisha
Kipenzi nasihi elimisha
mie nipate yako nasiha
Kipenzi ah!
Wanipa mi donda sugu
Moyoni wasababisha vurugu
Kimya chako tu, rohoni vuguvugu
Hata ni semeze kama ndugu
Angalau ondoa hii hofu

NGURUWE

Suti zako za madola, gari aina ya Bima,
Mlo wako sembuse mola, bili ya lisha nchi nzima,
Nyumba kubwa kule hola, waishi bila kupima
Wewe nguruwe ni mshindi, miungu kakupa pepo
...
Tumbo lako ndilo haja, wajibuwo kawa ovyo
Mifuko kwako ndyo haja, roho wako wa uchoyo
Mkono birika wa taja, utu katoweka moyo
Wewe nguruwe ni mshindi, miungu kakupa pepo.

Heshima ndio wataka, eti mtumishi wa watu
Haki zetu wazibaka, na mawazo yenye kutu,
Akilio mejaa taka, heri tusihi majitu
Wewe nguruwe ni mshindi, miungu kakupa pepo

Hauna hata adabu, katiba ka kojolea
unatupea aibu, kwenye pipa wa bobea
Hulka zako za ajabu, mifukoyo kuombea
wewe nguruwe ni mshindi, miungu kakupa pepo.
