MY COUNTRY IS A CIRCUS

My country is a circus
Without a willing audience.
They watched a man beaten
Beyond half to death,
And as they thought he was not 'theirs'
They cheered and laughed.
And when they learnt that he was 'theirs'
That is when they condemn the crime!
Circus, right

They pulled down the average man's building,
Because it was CLOSE to the river bed,
And the poor lived in it
But funded a rich man's theft of a river bed, a river bank, and a river itself
Because they call each other ndugu,
drink from the same nyungu,
laugh when you are hit with rungus
And in unison call you nugu.

You see, this circus thinks you are foolish
And it is dangerous to act otherwise.
For those who did met table mannered hyenas
Died a dozen deaths, all suicide by the way.
And were followed beyond the graves
For silence they were to keep,
If you see this beyond the circus,
My friend, you are the star of the circus

You  see the fools fight
they believe the politician:
a greed animal driven by it belly
they call each other names
and hide behind education
while their minds are closed to development
the poor souls will never be decolonized.

this circus demands that they act like monkeys,
that they look for differences
where none exist
that they hurl insults, and stones too,
for the winner is it that shouts loudest
you are part of this circus,
if you will stoop as low as they do,
if you will be the animal they make you out to be.
kenya is a circus,  and you are either man or monkey
